1:1 Dance / Movement Therapy & Somatic Movement Sessions

"Dance is a language beyond words, expressing that for which we have no words"
Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) is a practice that views the body as a powerful tool for creative expression, emotional regulation, and connection with the world around us.
Through expressive and intentional movement, DMT fosters a sense of well-being, helping individuals cultivate deeper self-awareness, confidence, and physical presence.
By tuning into bodily sensations, breath patterns, and natural movement impulses, we gain valuable insight into our emotions and thought processes.
This inner awareness serves as a guide for regulating and balancing our mental and physical states.
Being embodied—fully connected to ourselves and grounded in the present moment—also enhances our ability to engage with the environment in a more adaptive and fulfilling way.
“My work is about helping you feel what’s truly happening in your body — and hold it with compassion.”
“My work is about helping you feel what’s truly happening in your body — and hold it with compassion.”

Over time, we may develop habitual patterns in movement, posture, breathing, or body awareness that no longer serve us.
These patterns often stem from past trauma and may persist as coping mechanisms.
DMT offers a holistic approach to exploring these ingrained habits as they manifest in the body. By gently acknowledging, examining, and integrating parts of ourselves that may feel stuck, suppressed, or neglected, we create space for profound transformation.
Moving through these parts with curiosity and compassion allows us to access greater self-acceptance, inner resilience, and a renewed sense of wholeness.

Frequently asked questions

No experience is needed at all.
Dance Movement Therapy isn’t about performance, technique, or “looking good.” It’s about moving in a way that feels real and true to you. Whether you're a trained dancer or someone who feels disconnected from your body, DMT meets you exactly where you are — with compassion and curiosity. We will take the sessions at your own pace, so we will only get to any 'movement’ until you are feeling ready.

Each session is unique and guided by your needs. We might begin with a grounding or mindfulness practice, followed by gentle guided movement, somatic exploration, and space for reflection. Movement might be subtle or expressive — there’s no right or wrong way to show up. We’ll work together to create a safe container where you can explore your body, emotions, and inner world.

That’s completely okay — and very common.
Part of the DMT process is gently exploring those edges in a supported, non-judgmental space. There’s no pressure to perform or move in any specific way. You’re always invited to go at your own pace, and stillness is just as valid as movement. Your comfort, safety, and consent are always the priority. -
Sessions are $70 NZD for now, as I’m currently in the second year of my Dance Movement Therapy training (over halfway through the program). Each session is 1 hour, and we typically begin with 6–8 sessions, either weekly or fortnightly depending on your rhythm and needs.
I'm also happy to discuss payment plans or sliding scale options if finances are a barrier right now — please don’t hesitate to reach out. This work is about accessibility and care, and I want you to feel supported.
